La Ultima Parada 2015 is pleased to welcome Fuego Nuevo Ballet Folklorico Mexicano as an event presenter. They will offer a suite of dances from the state of Michoacan at 4:00pm. The company recently celebrated their tenth anniversary with two days of Gala Performances and accompanied by live music at the California Theater in the heart of San Jose. Their mission: DIFUNDIR POR MEDIO DE LA DANZA LA CULTURA DE MEXICOA TRAVES DE CLASES Y ESPECTÁCULOS.
For the Aztecs, the world could end every fifty-two years–the cycle of the sun. Because of this, all the fires were put out at the end of the last day of every cycle. Only the high priests could start the new fire through a ritual that would ensure that the sun would come out again, thereby starting the new cycle. Fuego Nuevo = new fire.
Fuego Nuevo Artistic Directors, Jose Luis Juarez y Miguel Angel Martinez were exposed at a young age to the world of dance as students in the ‘Ballet Folklorico Vicente Guerrero’ directed by Marcial Cortez, in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. They later joined the prestigious “Ballet Folklorico Nacional de Mexico”, the Mexican National Traditional Dance Group directed by Silvia Lozano. Looking to better themselves and their dance, they immigrated to the United States. Inspired by their passion for dance they decided to open their academy and create their own company in San Jose in February of 2005. Be sure to visit Fuego Nuevo’s website and view their amazing photo gallery.
