La Ultima Parada 2016 – Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca!!

LUP 2016 welcomes Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca
LUP 2016 welcomes Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca

Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca

Ricardo Lemvo has established himself as a pioneer with his innovative music. Lemvo’s blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms with pan-African styles (soukous, Angolan semba and kizomba) has been described by the Los Angeles Times as “seamless and infectious.”  Lemvo hails from São Salvador Do Congo (M’Banza-Kongo), Zaire in Northern Angola. He grew up in Congo-Kinshasa where he was introduced to Cuban music by a cousin who owned a large collection of vintage Cuban LPs. Lemvo came to the US more than 30 years ago to pursue a law degree but ended up devoting his life to music.

Lemvo is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. He is truly multi-cultural and equally at home singing in Spanish, Portuguese, Kimbundu, Turkish, Lingala, and Kikongo. Since forming his Los Angeles-based band Makina Loca in 1990, Lemvo has refined his craft and vision, raising his joyous voice with strength, singing songs that celebrate life, and most importantly, inspiring his audiences to let loose and dance away their worries.

Through the years, Lemvo has performed countless shows in many festivals, night clubs, and Performing Art Centers throughout Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Australia. Giving him the ultimate form of respect, his songs have been performed and recorded by such artists as Colombia’s Joe Arroyo, Orquesta Revé from Cuba, and the Russian band, Tres Muchachos.

Lemvo’s seven CDs, Tata Masamba, Mambo Yo Yo*, São Salvador*, Ay Valeria!, Isabela Retrospectiva and Rumba SoYo have been enthusiastically acclaimed by both print and broadcast media worldwide.  Lemvo has been the subject of various radio and television programs including BBC Radio, Radio France Internationale, Radio-Télévision Belge, National Public Radio, CBS Sunday Morning, NBC Today Show, CNN World Beat, National Geographic World Music, Rádio Nacional de Angola, and Televisão Pública de Angola.  In film, Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca appeared in the 1998 movie Dance With Me starring Vanessa Williams and Chayanne.

Ricardo Lemvo leaves an indelible impression with any and all who hear his music or see him perform. Why? Because, like Lemvo, there is no other!

LUP SonidoClashLED Tea Light Candles
Artist, Raquel Burciaga, will be transforming the Palm Grove into a CampoSanto (graveyard) honoring many of our cultural icons that have passed.  We are looking for little LED tea light candles for the garden and pond area. If possible, we would love the submersible kind so we can put them in the pond. We will also take the regular, non-submersible kind to put around the garden and pond area.

LUP SonidoClashBum Cushions
Artist SonidoClash featuring DJ’s Turbo Sonidero, Chatos1013 & Special guest El Mero Guero will be spinning in the Garden Pond.  No, really–we mean IN the Garden Pond.  We would like cushions to put on the concrete around the pond for people to sit. Because of the coloring of the tile around the pond, we would like plain and simple colors. Single color, no crazy prints. Ideally white or off-white. Also, ideally long sections but we will take small single sections as well.

MHPFlags for inside the Plaza
Artist & LUP Co-creative, Rick Moreno will be building the Main Altar in the center of the Plaza.  We would like to complement the ambiance with color.  There are flag holders all around the plaza, and we would like to fill them with flags from the 21 Spanish speaking countries in the world.  If schools would like to donate a flag with their colors or logo (with no writing), those will gladly be accepted.

If you can accommodate (or would simply like to make a donation) kindly write to us at LaUltimaParada2015@gmail.com and we will schedule a pick-up.  ¡Mil gracias!

For the Aztecs, the world could end every fifty-two years–the cycle of the sun. Because of this, all the fires were put out at the end of the last day of every cycle. Only the high priests could start the new fire through a ritual that would ensure that the sun would come out again, thereby starting the new cycle. Fuego Nuevo = new fire.

Fuego Nuevo Artistic Directors, Jose Luis Juarez y Miguel Angel Martinez were exposed at a young age to the world of dance as students in the ‘Ballet Folklorico Vicente Guerrero’ directed by Marcial Cortez, in Iztapalapa, Mexico City.  They later joined the prestigious “Ballet Folklorico Nacional de Mexico”, the Mexican National Traditional Dance Group directed by Silvia Lozano. Looking to better themselves and their dance, they immigrated to the United States. Inspired by their passion for dance they decided to open their academy and create their own company in San Jose in February of 2005.  Be sure to visit Fuego Nuevo’s website and view their amazing photo gallery.
